This accolade distinguishes UCL Centre for Blockchain Technology (UCL BCT) as a formidable hub for blockchain education and research, eclipsing renowned institutions like Oxford and Cambridge. The ranking methodology encompassed a diverse array of metrics such as research influence, course offerings, industry collaborations, graduate employment, and reputation.

UCL’s comprehensive array of crypto-centric curricula and initiatives were pivotal in attaining this high rank, boasting multiple blockchain research centres, student clubs, and four master’s programmes, a feat unmatched by any of the other 240 universities assessed. UCL’s prolific research output was also recognised, having published 186 academic papers on blockchain between 2019-22, which garnered 1,984 high-level citations in the academic press.
